GP Extended Hours

The Extended Access Service has more appointments with GPs available, making it easier for you to get an appointment at a time that suits you, including evenings and weekends.

Appointments are available from 8am–8pm, 7 days a week, including bank holidays. Appointments must be booked in advance.
Anyone registered with a participating GP practice.

How do I book an appointment?

Contact your GP practice in the usual way to request an appointment. If there is no appointment available at your practice, they may offer you an appointment with the GP Extended Access Service, if this is right for you.

If your practice is closed and you need a GP, please contact NHS 111. They will also be able to book an appointment for you with the GP Extended Access Service. Please note that your consent will be required in order for an appointment to be booked for you.

For further information or how to book an appointment online please ask at your GP practice.

If urgent care is required please call ‘111’ for further advice. If your need is life threatening, please go to A&E or call 999.

For support with the management of minor ailments, please contact your local pharmacist or visit the NHS Website or Health Help Now

You will be seen by experienced GPs and nurses, but it is unlikely that you will be seen by your own GP or nurse.

If you would prefer to see your usual GP or practice nurse, please book an appointment with your usual practice during their normal opening hours.
Your medical record will, with your consent, be available to the GP that sees you, to ensure that they have the information they need to give you the best possible care.

Notes of your appointment will be sent back to your own GP practice electronically to ensure that your record is up-to-date.

An appointment with this service will be just like an appointment at your own GP practice.
If you need to cancel the appointment, please call the practice and leave a message stating your name and the time and date of your appointment with the GP Extended Access Service.

Travel Health

Our practice nurses are available by appointment to offer medical advice regarding travel and vaccinations where appropriate.

Our nurses can provide travel health advice and arrange for appropriate immunisations. Please arrange an appointment for a travel consultation at least 6-8 weeks before departure if possible. Vaccines need time to take effect and some may require a course over several weeks.

Please complete the Travel Health Assessment form prior to your appointment.

The following websites will give you additional travel advice:
Travel Health for information of vaccinations available on NHS
MASTA for private vaccination clinics
Gov.uk for specific country travel advice
EHIC to apply for your free European Health Insurance Card

Travel Vaccination Prices

Travel advice is covered by the NHS; however some vaccinations and prescriptions are only available privately. Payment for non-NHS services must be made at the first travel appointment.

The following vaccines are immediately available in the surgery:

  • NHS: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A, Typhoid
  • Non-NHS: Hepatitis B (adult) £25 per dose (usually 3 or 4 required), Rabies £55 per dose (usually 3 required)

The following vaccines can be obtained by private prescription and a charge of £25 is payable to the surgery for each visit to administer. The cost of the vaccine is also payable to the chemist. You will be required to obtain the necessary vaccines and pay the pharmacy separately for these and return them to the practice for administration.

Vaccines must be stored between 2 and 8 degrees in a refrigerator; the ideal way to do this is to hand them in to the practice as soon as possible.

All anti-malaria medications are provided privately. If recommended a private prescription will be issued at a cost of £15 and the cost of the medication will be payable to the pharmacy.

Yellow Fever vaccination is not provided in the surgery but available from specialist travel clinics.
